Last weekend I went to Chicago for a quick trip to visit some friends. Though I’d like to say we went on an architecture tour, visited some museums or even saw the famous BEAN, we did none of that. We did, however, enjoy some of the best meals I have ever had.
Dinner Friday night was at the Publican. Delicious, family-style with communal seating.

On Saturday we went to the Goose Island brew pub. We didn’t do a brewery tour, but we did each have a beer flight and some delicious food – far surpassing expectations for a brew pub.
After the brew pub and a very brief walk down Michigan Ave., we headed back to the West Loop (which is a fantastic neighborhood of Chicago that reminded me a lot of Brooklyn). We popped into Au Cheval to grab a few afternoon drinks and my friend explained that its usually nearly impossible to get into this restaurant and they don’t take reservations, but it was in between meal times and the kitchen was closed so we grabbed some bar seats and some bloodies. Au Cheval bloody = best. I’ve. ever. had.
We ended up staying until the kitchen re-opened for dinner and though we had dinner reservations in only a few hours, we knew we had to take advantage of our luck and order some food.

Saturday night we went to Girl & the Goat – another MUST for my fellow foodies. Girl & the Goat’s executive chef is Top Chef winner Stephanie Izard. I didn’t get many pictures here, but they also suggest family-style shared plates – one of which was pig face. Surprisingly delicious.
Wowza . . . that bloody looks amazing! Great pics!
